Every so often, a collection comes along that reminds the world about the world. This collection captures contemporary voices of Pacific and Indian Ocean islanders as they stare in the face of climate change’s effects and get ignored.

Project head Tim Cole and his partner Bao Bao Chen realized that with the loss of the lands of these people, the oceanic songs they have used to sustain their societies can go, too.

Sixteen islands were visited over three years to record some of the most respected voices singing key traditional songs using acoustic instruments to develop a playful and potent soundtrack to the region and its seafaring peoples. Utterly wonderful.
